Romania made an unsuccessful debut at the European U21 Championship in Slovakia.
In Trnava, in front of 2,500 spectators, 2,000 of whom were Romanians, the national team lost to Italy, 0-1. The only goal of the match was scored by Baldanzi in the 26th minute.
Louis Munteanu missed a penalty in the last minute of the first half, and Romania limited its chances of advancing to the next phase of the competition.
